Job Description

Basic Function

Under direction, on an assigned shift maintains and operates sewage treatment plant and related functions, and performs a variety of skilled tasks in the care and maintenance of plant equipment, facilities, and grounds.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Performs laboratory tests as required

Performs minor repairs and standard maintenance to plant and substation equipment

Maintains grounds around plant and lagoons

Performs additional duties as assigned

 

Qualifications 

Knowledge of the methods, equipment, materials, and terminology used in the operation and care of plant equipment

Knowledge of the principles of metering devices

Ability to perform minor repairs to plant equipment

Ability to execute appointed tasks in accordance with established safety procedures

Ability to read gauges and recording devices

Ability to keep routine records

Ability to use a wide variety of hand tools

Ability to listen to, follow and communicate oral and written instructions

Ability to supervise and work well with a small team

 

Education and Experience

Completion of high school or GED required; associate’s degree preferred

Three years’ experience in the maintenance and operation of a wastewater plant or other public utilities facility required

 

Special Requirements

A current Kansas driver’s license

Certification as a Kansas Class III or IV Wastewater Operator 

Compliance with state mandated continuing education requirements

Must be available to work nights, in shifts, overtime, and weekends

 

Physical Requirements

Intense physical effort is required.  Individual must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, carry, push, pull, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, handle, grasp, speak, and listen for extended periods of time.

 

Working Conditions

Work involves continuous exposure to hazardous substances, potentially dangerous situations, unpleasant work conditions such as adverse weather conditions or extreme risk of accident or ill health.  

SALARY RANGE:  The starting salary for this position is $20.80 - 30.16 per hour plus benefits.
