Job Description
The Director of Athletic Academic Services is responsible for overseeing the academic performance and progress of Butler Community College student athletes, including aiding them in selecting courses for each semester, providing routine grade checks, meeting academic transfer requirements for four-year institutions and directing a tutor/mentor program to assist them in achieving their academic goals. This person will work to motivate student athletes to take ownership of their academic development. The Director of Athletic Academic Services will serve as a liaison between the athletic department and faculty and will also play a key role in Butler student athletes’ involvement with service learning projects.
A. Working knowledge of the KJCCC, NJCAA and NCAA rules as they relate to academic progress and compliance.
B. Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse student population as well as administration, faculty and staff.
C. Ability to motivate student athletes to meet academic goals and requirements for graduation.
D. Understanding of NCAA transfer rules as they change and how to assist Butler student athletes in meeting those requirements in order to be immediately eligible upon transferring to a four-year institution.
E. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
F. Computer skills pertaining to database management.
G. Ability to work from a developmental perspective, meeting the student where he/she is on an academic level.
H. Knowledge of scholarship requirements and financial aid eligibility.
A. One to three years’ experience in academic advising.
B. One year of athletics work related experience.
C. Knowledge of NJCAA, KJCCC and NCAA rules.
