SummaryThe Systems Administrator II performs multiple functions to ensure IT infrastructure is available, reliable, secure, and stable either individually or under the guidance of experienced personnel. This role will be responsible for monitoring systems and serving as a focal point for support. The Systems Administrator II will plan for the future by setting and documenting direction for their specific area of responsibility for the information systems infrastructure.
Primary duties will revolve around applying existing Linux skills with the willingness to learn, manage and support our Trunked Radio Systems.
Duties and Responsibilities- Evaluates, configures, and maintains systems including installing and testing new releases.
- Monitors and evaluates operating efficiency, analyze performance and tuning.
- Analyzes system problems to identify problem areas.
- Mitigates application and operating system vulnerabilities to ensure security of information systems.
- Follows established procedures required for efficient management of the infrastructure.
- Maintains appropriate records including statistical reports, inventories, and technical documentation among others.
- Installs new or enhanced applications and/or hardware; assist in the installation of servers.
- Manages medium enterprise projects according to division standards and requirements.
- Serves as a subject matter expert within one's area of responsibility regarding information systems infrastructure.
- Has broad technical knowledge of information systems and recommends solutions based on current infrastructure components.
- 2+ years of systems administration experience
- Bachelor's degree in the field of Information Systems, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering, with a minimum of 24 semester hours of computer-related courses, or two additional years of direct work experience
- United States Citizenship
- Ability to obtain and maintain, if required for position, a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance (some positions require additional DOE designations)
- Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
- Ability to work remote, hybrid, or on-site as directed by management and is determined by the needs of the business
- Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this job
- Experience with (or willingness to learn) Trunked Radio Systems/P25 Land Mobile Radio (LMR) systems, Cellular radio systems, or experience with amateur radio (HAM or Military Radio) equipment.
- Working knowledge of Red Hat operating systems.
- Knowledge or experience with Hyper-V and VMWare virtualization technologies.
- Knowledge or experience with Kubernetes or Docker containerization technologies.
- Knowledge or experience with cloud computing technologies.
- General knowledge and experience in scripting tools (like PowerShell, Puppet, Perl, Python) to support database, web and application administration.
- General understanding of installation, configuration and administration of enterprise web services, application servers, databases, clustering backup and recovery systems, portals, firewalls, virtual private networks, terminal services, authentication and authorization, collaboration, and load balancing.
