POSITION SUMMARY

The Clinic Nurse will assist  Urology Physicians, Mid-level practitioners, and medical students with patient care.  This includes preparing patients and the examination rooms, taking initial medical history for the chart, taking vital signs, making lab and x-ray appointments, and explaining the preparations to the patients.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Assist the Urology Physician and/or Mid-level practitioner with patients. Prepare patients and examination rooms, take initial medical history for the chart, take vital signs, make lab and x-ray appointments, and explain the preparations to the patients.
2. Assist Physician and/or Mid-level practitioner in all special procedures including minor surgery, as required.
3. Remove sutures, clean wounds, and apply dressings as directed by Physician and/or Mid-level practitioner.
4. Notify patients of lab results as requested by Physician and/or Mid-level practitioner.
5. Responsible for lab work consisting of throat cultures, hematocrits, U/A stix, and preparations for microscope.
6. Wash and dry instruments used and prepare sterilization as required.
7. Receive and handle patient and other phone calls as directed by the Physician and/or Mid-level practitioner.
8. Responsible for inventory, proper handling, and storage of all medications stored in the office.
9. Complete physical forms and referral arrangements.
10. Assist in keeping large volume and variety of medical records in accordance to office procedures.
11. File lab reports and check medical supplies.
12. Keep examination and treatment rooms clean and properly stocked with supplies.
13. After receiving Physician and/or Mid-level practitioner dictation from transcriptionist, will make follow up calls to the patients regarding their well-being.
14. Will be the backup for the receptionists on incoming phone calls.
15. Responsible for calling in pharmacy prescriptions and refills.
16. Perform other duties as necessary.
