Job Summary
Under the general supervision of the Surface and Mine Manager and the direct supervision of the Surface and Mine Supervisor, the mechanic does extensive level troubleshooting, installation, maintenance, and repair work at the mine site. The individual will report any malfunctions or abnormalities to their supervisor; ensuring that the machinery and safety equipment are in good working order and a high standard of housekeeping is maintained in their workplace.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Has an extensive knowledge of most of the following skills: electric and gas welding, black smithing, rigging, electricity, pipe fitting, machine tool setup and operation, diesel and internal combustion engines, sheet metal layout and working, heavy and light machinery repairs, construction, maintenance, and installation, etc.
- Able to troubleshoot equipment and apply best practices to successfully repair and maintain mining equipment.
- Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Properly communicate the status of assigned job(s) with the relieving shift mechanics and shop supervisors.
- May perform carpentry and painting work.
- Assists others of higher classification and works with and directs the work of others in making repairs to mine machinery.
- Has the knowledge of and ability to properly use mechanic's hand tools.
- May interpret construction and installation instructions, read and work from blueprints, and has a working knowledge of shop mathematics.
- Performs routine tasks such as greasing, oiling, cleaning, and inspections of equipment under little to no supervision or guidance.
- Performs tasks as dismantling and reassembly of machinery, vertical welding, building and installing ordinary sheet metal piping, installing conduit, etc.
- On occasions, as a matter of training, may be assigned tasks of a skill normally required of a mechanic of a higher classification.
- Keeps working area clean, neat, and orderly and tools are kept in clean and in good repair condition.
