Job Description
The Accounting Clerk is a support position for the Finance Department. This position is responsible for working with utility billing, including processing accounts receivables and recording customer changes, and working in accounts payable, including data entry and maintaining vendor files. This position works directly with the public on bill payments and customer invoicing.
While the Accounting Clerk's duties are diverse, this position will focus more on the AP duties with utility billing duties being secondary.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF WORK
- Performs accounts payable data entry processing, deductions from proper departmental accounts
- Performs accounts receivable data entry, allocating to proper accounts.
- Provides citizens enquiring about information regarding utility billings with quality customer service.
- Performs duties required during the complete transaction cycle for all utility billing accounts, including but not limited to: calculating balances, mailing, posting of receipts, and maintenance of all permanent records.
- Maintains vendor files.
- Performs other duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Knowledge of efficient office procedures, computer applications, software programs including documents and spreadsheets; have the ability to analyze, create, and produce reports and operate related equipment.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, supervisors, City officials, related agencies and the general public.
- Ability to provide reliable information and high quality, consistent service; conscious of how individual actions impact the City of Andover. Must relate well to different styles and show consideration for others.
- Possess good organizational skills, effective communication skills, and the ability to prioritize, plan, and work independently and efficiently with minimal supervision provided by the Sr. Accountant.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to meet scheduled deadlines and perform all duties accurately with attention to detail and good error recognition capabilities.
- This employee must be able to recognize and maintain confidential information.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Occasional maximum lift of 20 lbs. from floor to waist; occasional forward reach; occasional crouch/bend; continuous bilateral hand coordination; continuous sit; occasional stand; occasional walk.
- Generally, adverse working conditions do not exist in this position. However, at times this position deals with high stress due to customer contact and multiple task deadlines.
