Job Description
GBA - Architect (5+ Years of Experience)GBA's Life Sciences team is seeking a Life Sciences Architect to support projects at our Lenexa, Kansas office. Join our team of architects and engineers serving biopharmaceutical and industrial manufacturers, CDMOs, and advanced therapy companies through every phase of facility development, from conceptual planning and detailed design to construction support.
Responsibilities
• Assist senior architects with complex design projects and initiatives. Perform detailed design work based on initial concepts. Develop and coordinate architectural plans, elevations, sections, and technical details for life sciences and industrial facilities. Support review of architectural drawings for standards and codes. Assist with programming and analysis of technical facilities like pharmaceutical, industrial, labs, and R&D spaces. Collaborate with process, MEP, structural engineers, interior designers, and construction teams. Work with process architects to develop coordinated designs, ensuring workflow,
safety, efficiency, and future growth. Participate in design reviews, client meetings, regulatory discussions, and presentations. Incorporate sustainability and value engineering in design. Support QA/QC processes for architectural deliverables.
Requirements
• Education: Accredited professional degree in Architecture (B.Arch, M.Arch, or equivalent from NAAB-accredited program) • Experience: 5+ years of professional architectural experience in A&E firm environment • Life Sciences Expertise: Experience in life sciences facility design including pharmaceutical, biotech, cell & gene therapy, and laboratory projects preferred but not required • Technical Skills: High proficiency with Revit, MS Office Suite, and Bluebeam; AutoCAD experience is a plus • Advanced Software: Experience with 3D visualization tools (Enscape, Twinmotion, Navisworks, or similar) • Code Compliance: Working knowledge of OSHA, ADA, International Building Codes • Record Drawing Experience: Proficiency in creating accurate as-built drawings and maintaining project documentation throughout construction• Communication: Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills for client interface and team collaboration • Travel: Willingness for moderate travel for projects, training, or client meetings (10-20%) • Team Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams with engineers and construction professionals • Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously • Support Role Capability: Proven ability to provide effective support to senior staff while working independently on assigned tasks
Preferred Qualifications
• Licensure: Architectural license in good standing with ability for NCARB reciprocal licensure • Certifications: LEED AP, WELL AP, or similar sustainability credentials • • Process Integration: Understanding of process equipment integration and facility flow optimization for manufacturing environments • Specialized Experience: Direct experience with biotech/pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities, cleanrooms, and sterile processing environments • Regulatory Expertise: Familiarity with cGMP standards, FDA regulations, and pharmaceutical manufacturing requirements •
