Position Summary: Infrastructure Manager
The Kansas Department of Labor (KDOL) is seeking an IT Infrastructure Manager to lead and evolve its technology team. This role oversees the agency’s critical infrastructure operations and leads initiatives to ensure performance, reliability, scalability, and security. A key member of the IT leadership team, this individual drives infrastructure strategy, mentors staff, and promotes a culture of continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Infrastructure Performance & Reporting
- Maintain and improve infrastructure reliability through monitoring, tuning, upgrades, and strategic replacements
- Develop and track KPIs for infrastructure performance and projects
- Deliver reports to IT leadership on system health, performance, and trends
- Collect and analyze performance and security data from workstations, servers, and network systems
- Identify and act on areas for performance optimization and risk mitigation
Strategic Planning & Implementation
- Collaborate with the Deputy CIO on short- and long-term infrastructure strategies
- Design and implement scalable solutions including data center provisioning, storage, network security, and virtual platforms
- Drive execution of strategic initiatives and infrastructure projects
- Promote operational excellence and foster a culture of innovation and improvement
Leadership & Staff Development
- Lead and develop a high-performing infrastructure team
- Set SMART performance objectives aligned with agency goals
- Conduct regular performance check-ins and provide developmental feedback
- Build a learning culture by mentoring staff and supporting professional growth
Governance, Risk & Cybersecurity
- Serve on the Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) Committee
- Conduct security audits and respond to vulnerabilities with urgency and precision
- Implement and enforce robust security protocols and disaster recovery plans
- Monitor cybersecurity alerts and drive proactive incident response
Organizational Communications
- Coordinate infrastructure updates and changes with internal communications teams
- Deliver executive communications with clarity, professionalism, and purpose
- Represent the CIO and Deputy CIO in communicating directives to internal stakeholders
Minimum Qualifications
- Four years’ direct experience relative to the field of work.
- Five years of experience in information systems and/or analysis; equivalent experience may be substituted in lieu of formal education.
- At least three years of IT operations management experience
- Minimum three years of supervisory experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Direct experience in computer science, computer engineering, or a related IT field.
Technical and Professional Competencies
- Strong foundation in enterprise IT systems, network design, server infrastructure, and storage management
- Expertise in performance tuning, systems monitoring, and IT service delivery
- Experience leading infrastructure modernization and cloud or hybrid implementations
- Deep understanding of data protection, disaster recovery, and cybersecurity frameworks
- Proven ability to translate business challenges into technical solutions
- Working knowledge of laws and regulations affecting IT governance
