Job Description
Electrical Engineering Department Lead - Lenexa, KS OR Broomfield, COGBA, a professional, full-service architectural and engineering firm, is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer Department Lead in pharmaceutical facility design in our Life Sciences group in our Lenexa, KS, or Broomfield, CO, offices.
Candidate is a highly experienced electrical engineering leader with proven track record managing technical teams between 10-20 people in an A&E environment. Candidate must have deep expertise in pharmaceutical facility electrical systems, strong business acumen, and exceptional leadership skills. PE license required. Experience with complex biopharmaceutical projects, regulatory compliance, and multidisciplinary coordination is essential. This is a senior leadership role requiring strategic thinking, operational excellence, and the ability to drive department growth and profitability. Could be filled by candidates with biotech, pharmaceutical manufacturing, advanced therapy facility experience, industrial manufacturing, or other adjacent markets. Responsibilities:
• Lead and manage a team of 10-20 electrical engineers, designers, and support staff across multiple project portfolios
• Develop and execute strategic vision for electrical engineering department growth and technical excellence
• Establish departmental goals, metrics, and performance standards aligned with group and company objectives
• Manage departmental budget planning and resource allocation
• Foster innovation and continuous improvement in electrical engineering design processes and methodologies
• Represent the electrical engineering department in executive leadership meetings and strategic planning sessions
• Develop and maintain key client relationships with major pharmaceutical and biotech companies
• Lead cross-functional coordination with mechanical, process, automation, and architectural disciplines
• Establish and maintain electrical engineering standards, procedures, and quality management systems
• Provide technical oversight and design review of all electrical designs
• Lead electrical engineering design for large-scale manufacturing facilities, including multi-building campuses
• Ensure compliance with FDA, EMA, MHRA, and other international regulatory requirements
• Guide electrical systems integration for complex process equipment and critical utilities
• Conduct performance management including reviews, goal setting, and career development planning
• Develop and implement comprehensive training programs for electrical engineering staff
• Mentor senior engineers and prepare them for leadership roles within the organization
• Manage workload distribution and resource allocation across multiple concurrent projects
• Conduct Project Management multi-discipline team including financial management of project budgets
• Act as Client, Owner, and Contractor interface on select projects
• Conduct facility evaluations, assessments, engineering studies, and trouble shooting reports
• Perform quality assurance and quality control reviews of electrical design documents
• Assist in electrical system troubleshooting
• Participate in design reviews and client presentations
• Oversee all electrical group proposal development
• Provide construction administration services including reviewing shop drawings and submittals for electrical systems and equipment
• Provide project management for multi-discipline teams including financial management of project budgets
Requirements:
• Licensed Professional Electrical Engineer (PE) required
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
• Minimum 15 years of electrical engineering experience in electrical engineering design
• 8+ years of team leadership experience managing electrical engineering teams of 10+ professionals
• Background in multidisciplinary project coordination and cross-functional leadership
• Deep understanding of electrical systems for biopharmaceutical manufacturing facilities
• Proficiency in electrical design software (Revit, AutoCAD, SKM PowerTools, ETAP)
• Understanding of electrical codes (NEC, NFPA, IEC) and pharmaceutical industry standards
• Proven ability to lead large technical teams and drive organizational performance
• Strong business acumen with experience in departmental management
• Excellent communication and presentation skills for executive-level client interaction
• Experience with strategic planning, goal setting, and performance management
• Ability to balance technical excellence with business objectives and profitability
• Strong project management skills with experience managing multiple concurrent projects
• 10 - 15% travel for client meetings, project oversight, and business development
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office software • Word, Excel, Outlook
Salary - $185,000 - $225,000 per year.
