The Simulation Clinical Instructor, Associate is a highly trained member of the instructor team who portrays a clinical role in a variety of simulated healthcare encounters by bringing interprofessional authenticity and scripted guidance for the learners within the simulation to maintain fidelity and facilitate achievement of learning objectives.

Job Description:

Job Duties Outlined
  • Assist in the design and instruction of simulation-based education per direction set by the course co-creators, such as faculty and the Learning and Design Strategist.
  • Serve in various instructor roles as assigned during the simulation encounter. The main roles include, but are not limited to:

o Embedded participant (EP): Role play a clinical part in the simulation case, using a combination of scripting and use of judgment to guide and assist the learners in maintaining clear direction of the simulation case progression, while communicating with faculty and technician in the control room as needed, and aids in troubleshooting and safe use of equipment.

o Skills station coach: In simulation sessions focused on deliberate practice, the coach role directs or instructs learners in developing goal-oriented skills within their assigned station.

o Associate debriefer: Takes cues from the lead debriefer and supports facilitation of the debriefing conversation as the subject matter expert in the clinical role.
  • Assist with the preparation of simulation course materials, such as room orientation scripting and instructional guides.
  • Attend instructor preparation sessions and complete designated independent preparation to ensure readiness for instruction.
  • Recognize and provide feedback on simulation gaps, needs, and opportunities.
  • Maintain learner confidentiality.
  • Maintain stewardship in the identification and appropriate use of available resources.

Required Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in Nursing. Experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.

License: Registered Nurse

Work Experience: 2 years of nursing experience in an applicable clinical setting.



Preferred Qualifications

Work Experience:
  • Work experience in healthcare simulation and education.
  • 3 years of acute care or ICU clinical experience.



Skills
  • Communicate effectively both written and verbally.

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
