Job Description Summary:
The Research Assistant will contribute to research efforts in the Zamora Lab within the Division of Genetic, Environmental and Inhalational Disease (GEID), which investigates interactions between microbes and the host immune system with a focus on cystic fibrosis airways. This position involves both experimental research and support of daily laboratory operations. Working under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, the Research Assistant will play an integral role in advancing the lab's scientific objectives and maintaining an organized, efficient research environment.

Job Description:

Job Duties:
  • Perform routine laboratory duties and support operations (ordering, tracking, inventory, laboratory safety, regulatory and compliance).
  • Maintain lab organization, including inventory management and utilization of record-keeping systems
  • Conduct experiments, including data generation, analysis, and detailed documentation
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date electronic lab notebooks
  • Perform collaborative studies with other research laboratories at KUMC.
  • Participate in regular one-on-one meetings with the PI, weekly lab meetings, attend project meetings, department seminars, reviews, and prepare related agendas, reports, and documentation.
  • Support onboarding and training of new lab members, including introducing lab protocols and standard operating procedures. Support general lab management and compliance with safety protocols

Required Qualifications:

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in a biological science. Education may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.


Preferred Qualifications:

Work Experience:
  • One year of previous lab experience (can be gained through relevant coursework and studies).


Skills:
  • Organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Communication skills.
  • Problem-solving, multi-tasking and time management skills.

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
