FUNCTIONAL ROLE:
THE BASIC FUNCTION OF A CLERK I IS TO PROCESS VEHICLE REGISTRATIONS AND RENEWALS.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:• Manage customer accounts and update information as needed.
• Process payment transactions for customers at the counter and mail on standard vehicles, heavy trucks, and trailers by the deadline each month.
• Registration transactions processed daily:
¦ Registration Renewals
¦ Update Registrations
¦ Refund Registrations
¦ Reprint Registrations
¦ File lost or stolen plates or stickers
¦ Temporary permits
¦ Registration of newly purchased vehicles
¦ Repossession titles
¦ Dealer titles
¦ Possessory lien titles
¦ Mechanics lien titles
¦ Courtesy registrations
¦ Non-Highway titles
¦ Salvage titles
¦ Rebuilt Salvage titles
¦ Order personalized and specialty license plates
• Process Replacement title applications.
• Assist customers with obtaining insurance identification from insurance companies as needed.
• Process lien/security interest releases and add lien/security interest for financial institutions.
• Scan all necessary documents to finalize all transactions.
• Reissue lost or stolen license plates.
• Process new or renewal Disabled Placards
• Process antique tax payments received at the counter and the mail. Fax Antique statements to satellite office upon request.
• Collects all Motor Vehicle and Recreational Vehicle taxes for the county.
• Answer phones when not with customers. Respond to calls and messages for property tax estimates and sales tax on new purchases for tag & title registrations.
• Correspond by phone or letter with customers as needed for additional payment for interest due, checks written out incorrectly or anything that is preventing their payment from being processed. Follow up and document any correspondence.
• Mail receipts for transactions received in daily mail.
• Responsible for balancing cash drawer daily.
• Retain a record of returned license plates and prepare plates for shipping.
• Process web renewals.
RequirementsREQUIREMENTS:
• ABILITY TO WORK WITHOUT IMMEDIATE SUPERVISION.
• ABILITY TO OPERATE OFFICE MACHINES, I.E., CALCULATOR, COPIER, COMPUTER, PRINTERS, OR ANY OTHER OFFICE EQUIPMENT AS APPROPRIATE TO THE POSITION.
• ABILITY TO PERSONALLY RESOLVE PROBLEMS OF A ROUTINE NATURE.
• ABILITY TO WORK WITH OTHERS.
• MUST BE COURTEOUS TO CUSTOMERS AND HAVE PLEASANT TELEPHONE MANNERS.
• MUST BE ABLE TO RECEIVE CASH PAYMENTS, COUNT CHANGE BACK TO CUSTOMERS, AND BALANCE CASH DRAWER DAILY.
• KNOWLEDGE OF MICROSOFT WORD AND EXCEL PROGRAMS PREFERRED.
• MUST BE ABLE TO LIFT UP TO 30 POUNDS.
