Job Description
- Tutor students who request assistance with writing or general study skills for any course.
- Maintain schedules for the Writing Desk.
- Maintain accurate accounts of physical tutoring resources and supplies, informing supervisor and/or administrative assistant in a timely fashion when something needs to be replaced or has gone missing.
- Maintain physical and online writing resources (handouts, website links, etc.).
- Alert supervisor to any problems and/or concerns related to the writing lab or to the learning center in general.
- Model “best practices” of professional tutoring, including maintenance of open communication with peer tutors and supervisor.
- Promote implementation of adopted learning center procedures.
- Participate in tutor training and other training as needed.
- Report progress of students to instructional staff when requested.
- Maintain the online tutor training: update materials and assessments, synch them with the Tutor Handbook, assess student tutor responses, and track progress.
- Serve as a front desk receptionist (answering phone calls, providing campus or community directions, assisting patrons with computer or printing issues, and generally helping to meet people’s needs).
- Arrive on time for work, attend work regularly, and successfully complete the responsibilities of the position.
- Comply with HutchCC policies, procedures, and practices.
Secondary –
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Rimmer Support Services, such as conducting seminars and workshops, maintaining the RLRC webpage at hutchcc.edu, working with ITS and Online Ed to maintain or improve online tutoring services, and sharing the supervision of the center as needed.
