Campus Safety Officer – Summary
The Campus Safety Officer is responsible for maintaining safety and security across the HumanKind campus through foot patrols, monitoring surveillance systems, and enforcing policies. This role aims to protect residents, clients, staff, and visitors from harm or disorderly conduct. Officers work independently under general direction, using sound judgment in dynamic situations and may supervise others.
Key Responsibilities
- Patrol campus grounds and monitor surveillance equipment
- Respond to emergencies, evacuate buildings, and assist in crisis situations
- Investigate suspicious activity or security breaches
- Enforce rules, direct traffic, and assist with crowd control
- Write incident reports and maintain equipment functionality
- Work nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call as needed
HumanKind Ministries is seeking a qualified individual to fill the role of Campus Safety Officer.
Must be able to pass a criminal history check and pre-employment drug screening.
This is specialized work performing surveillance and security duties on the HumanKind campus at the direction of the Chief Operating Officer to prevent disorderly conduct and/or damage to property to ensure safety of residents, clients, visitors, and staff. Surveillance is conducted by roving foot patrol and using electronic monitoring equipment. A supervisor makes work assignments and gives instructions concerning policies and procedures, but the employee works independently and must use discretion and judgment handling situations that arise. May be required to supervise others.
Responsibilities
- Directs residents, clients, visitors, and employees in evacuation of premises at times of emergency.
- Deters occurrences of an illegal nature by appearing in uniform.
- Answers questions of residents and visitors seeking directions or information.
- Performs crowd control functions as needed.
- Monitors HK facilities and infrastructure utilizing electronic monitoring equipment and computers.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Prevents losses and damage by reporting irregularities and informs violators of policies and procedures.
- Secures premises and personnel by patrolling property, monitoring surveillance equipment, and access points.
- Investigates security breaches, incidents, and other alarming behavior.
- Controls traffic by directing drivers as needed.
- Completes reports by recording observations, information, occurrences, and surveillance activities.
- Interviews witnesses and obtains signatures as needed.
- Maintains environment by monitoring and setting building and equipment controls.
- Maintains the organization’s stability and reputation by complying with legal requirements.
- Ensures operation of equipment by completing preventative maintenance requirements.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call required.

- Strong organizational and time management skills with a proven ability to set priorities and meet multiple competing deadlines in a timely and accurate manner.
- Strong interpersonal skills with ability to work effectively with residents, visitors, HK staff, law enforcement and other partnering agencies.
- Arrives at work promptly and demonstrates responsible use of work time.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
The position is regularly required to make use of close vision to read correspondence and prepare reports and other appropriate communications both verbally and in writing. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, climb stairs, sit, speak with residents, visitors, vendors, and HK staff. Using a computer for extended periods throughout the work shift may be required. S/he must hold a valid Kansas driver’s license. This position may also be required to assist in the physical set-up and preparation for special events and other similar activities. Must be able to lift 25lbs without assistance. Participation in meetings and events may require participation outside normal working hours as determined by the supervisor.
