Job Description

 The Lead Teacher is responsible for general administrative duties as assigned, for supervision of subordinate staff, and for planning, preparing, and implementing daily activities of lesson plans from The Creative Curriculum, monitoring children’s progress, and maintenance of related records for assigned classroom.   The Lead Teacher promotes the center’s mission and values. The Lead Teacher supports the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct. The Lead Teacher reports to the Assistant Director.

Position Requirements
o Must be 18 years if age or older and have a Highschool diploma or equivalent
o Must be able to pass a background check (ECLC responsible for submitting)
o Must be able to lift 30 pounds
o Active Adult/Child CPR and First Aid certification (ECLC will enroll and financially cover within the first 30 days of employment)
o Health assessment on KDHE form AND negative TB screen (ECLC will financially cover after orientation and within the first 10 days of employment)
o KCCTO Foundations Certification (ECLC will enroll and financially cover within the first 30 days of employment)
o Currently have CDA or working towards CDA with an end date. Must obtain a CDA in infant/toddler or preschool within 1 year of employment (ECLC offers teacher scholarships to ECLC employees)
o Consistent in attendance and job duties

Qualifications
INFANT/TODDLER ONE UNITS-
• MINIMUM: 6 months teaching experience in licensed facilities with children of same age – OR- minimum of 3 semester hours of academic credit in child development, early education, and curriculum resources –
• PREFERRED: Active CDA or degree in child development or early education TODDLER TWO, PRESCHOOL AND SCHOOL AGE UNITS
• MINIMUM : 7-9 semester hours of academic credit in child development or early education AND 3 months teaching experience in licensed centers or preschool-OR-12 observation hours in licensed center or preschool AND one year of teaching experience in center or preschool.
• PREFERRED: Active CDA, or degree in child development or early education

Responsibilities
The Lead Teacher, with the assistance of support staff, shall implement developmentally appropriate lesson plans and activities as outlined in The Creative Curriculum for his/her assigned classroom and work together with ECLC Administration and other staff members to foster an atmosphere of goodwill, open communication, and
teamwork. The Lead Teacher is responsible for being consistent and responsible in attendance and daily duties as well as all other duties as assigned by Executive Director or Assistant Director. The Lead Teacher is responsible for knowing and following current ECLC policies and procedures, KDHE regulations, and NAEYC standards. The primary responsibility of the Lead Teacher is the safety and well‐being of the children. It is therefore the obligation of the Lead Teacher to report to the Assistant Director or Executive Director any action or behavior by any ECLC Employee which might be detrimental to an ECLC employee, ECLC family or child(ren) within the Center.

Specific Duties
o Must be consistent in attendance and lead duties
o Meet and follow all ECLC policies and KDHE regulations
o Report any suspected abuse to ECLC administration and/or DCF, as you are a mandated reporter
o Assumes responsibility for operation of the Center in the absence of the Executive Director AND Assistant Director as appointed
o Assists in the design and implementation of education programs, including in-service, staff training
o Assists in planning and attending special programs and activities related to the center
o Attends and engages in staff and parent meetings, including Parent/Teacher conferences as required by ECLC Administration
o Attends and engages in ongoing professional development to improve personal and professional skills
o Keeps current with all credentials and degrees in accordance with all accrediting and regulatory bodies
o Conducts team meetings with support staff as required by Administration

Staff Supervision
o Monitors and supervises daily activities of assigned support staff
o Supervises and assists assigned support staff with special problems or situations involving staff, families, or children
o Supports the professional growth of colleagues by sharing materials and information and providing helpful feedback and encouragement
o Responsible for annual performance evaluation of assigned support staff as required by Administration
o Supervises and guides student interns and work study students in classroom, including required evaluations
o Always maintains child‐staff and group size ratios
o Encourage assistant teachers to contribute to curriculum planning and classroom management. Supervise, mentor, teach and support assistants, aides, and volunteers.

Classroom environment
o Operate classroom within the policies of ECLC and KDHE regulations at all tines
o Use only positive discipline techniques as trained with all children. Ensure children are learning positive behaviors and provide guidance as needed
o Communicates with children on their developmental level
o Establishes and maintains routines with smooth transition periods
o Encourages children to be independent and the development of self-help skills
o Observes and documents children’s needs and developmental progress on an on‐going basis
o Create and maintain a safe and healthy environment that fosters children’s social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development that respects their dignity and contributions, in accordance with KDHE regulations and center policies
o Inspect, remove, and report damaged or lost materials and notify ECLC administration immediately
o Provide and maintain a quality environment as per CLASS measures Curriculum
o Provides a balance between child‐initiated and teacher‐initiated activities
o Provides developmentally appropriate activities that meet the needs of the individual child
o Creates and implements lesson plans using The Creative Curriculum models
o Plans and implements culturally diverse experiences that support families
o Maintains up to date lesson plans posting to the Teacher Board and Parent Board each Monday morning prior to the arrival of children
o Role Model healthy nutrition habits and socialization skills
o Assists children in establishing good habits of toileting and personal hygiene Assessment
o Involves classroom team in formal observations and assessment results and plan of action
o Meets with individual parents on matters involving child or Center policies as requested/required by Administration AND/OR after consulting first with Administration
o Report developmental concerns to ECLC administration
