Assistant Teacher / Support Staff

Job Description

Qualifications
o Must be 18 years or older
o Must be able to pass a background check
o Must be able to lift 30 lbs.
o Active Adult/Child CPR and First Aid certification (ECLC will enroll and financially cover within the first 30 days of employment)
o KCCTO Foundations Certification (ECLC will enroll and financially cover after orientation and within the first 10 days of employment)
o Consistent in attendance and job duties

Responsibilities
o Be flexible to work in all classroom environments when necessary
o Assists lead teacher with lesson plans, activities, and schedules
o Provides input on ideas, observations, and strategies to lead teachers
o Support the lead teacher in creating and maintaining a positive classroom environment
o Maintain daily and open communication with families, staff members, and administration
o Complete necessary incident reports, send a copy home with parents, turn original report in to office staff folder
o Maintain confidentiality of each child, family, and staff member as well as confidentiality of the center
o Meet all KDHE regulations as well as ECLC policies and procedures
o Attend all mandatory staff meetings and in-service. Stay up to date on any trainings to have a strong
understanding of the stages of early childhood development
o Followed assigned daily schedule
o Report any suspected abuse to Lead Teacher and ECLC administration, as you are a mandated reporter
o Report to ECLC administration if regulations are not being followed by staff
o Report any issues parents are having with the classroom, teachers, and/or ECLC administration
o Follow the cleaning schedule daily to ensure a clean and sanitary environment
o Complete any other duties that may be assigned by the lead teacher and/or ECLC administration

Classroom Environment
• Always assist in operating classroom within the policies of ECLC and KDHE regulations
• Use only positive discipline techniques as trained with all children. Ensure children are learning positive
behaviors and provide guidance as needed
• Communicate with children at their developmental level
• Assists in establishing and maintaining routines with smooth transition periodsAssist in creating and maintaining a safe and healthy environment that fosters children’s social, emotional,
cognitive, and physical development that respects their dignity and contributions, in accordance with
KDHE regulations and center policies
• Inspect, remove, and report damaged or lost materials and notify lead teacher immediately
• Assist in providing and maintaining a quality environment per CLASS measures
• Step up as the lead teacher while they are out of the classroom to maintain a healthy, safe, and consistent schedule

Curriculum
• Assist in providing a balance between child-initiated and teacher-initiated activities
• Assist in providing developmentally appropriate activities that meet the needs of the individual child
• Assist in implementing lesson plans
• Assists in planning and implementing culturally diverse experiences that support families
• Role model healthy nutrition habits and socialization skills
• Assist children in establishing good habits of toileting and personal hygiene
• Work with lead teacher to help children progress towards educational and behavioral goals and success

Administrative
• Help maintain up to date ProCare attendance and meal count records as requested by lead teacher
• Complete necessary incident reports, send a copy home with parents, turn original report in to designated file
• Maintain daily open communication with families through greetings, drop-off and pick-up, and ProCare
messages when requested by the lead teacher
• Assist in updating ProCare activities/meals/toileting etc. for each child in your classroom every day.
• Maintain confidentiality of each child, family, and staff member as well as confidentiality of the center
• Report any suspected abuse to State and/or ECLC administration, as all ECLC employees are mandated reporters
• Report directly to ECLC administration if any regulations are not being followed by staff
• Communicate with lead teacher about substitute preparations and your expectations while the lead teacher
is out
