WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER
The Appalachians Communications Director implements and manages efficient and effective communications, media and engagement plans to help drive organizational strategy. They facilitate on-going communication between all parts of the globally dispersed marketing division and internal and external stakeholders and identifies communication and media needs and opportunities. They develop and foster relations with key stakeholders and media contacts. The Appalachians Communcations Director manages communication strategies and program implementation, which may include high profile or key audiences like Board of Directors, state, and country board of trustees. They supervise staff and manage the budget, key operational plans, and dissemination of media information. They provide consultation, media training, coaching, and talking points to persons serving as spokesperson(s).
The Appalachians Communications Director leads the development and implementation of an integrated communications, marketing, and engagement strategy to help achieve our goals through donor engagement, facilitating conservation action, supporting policy outcomes, and building awareness of the organization and our mission. They partner with leaders, staff, and trustees to develop and implement marketing and communications efforts that help achieve our top priorities. They also integrate with and leverage the globally dispersed marketing and communications team to extend and share ideas and resources for the benefit of the organization and the work in the Appalachian region.
A key leadership position for the Appalachians Program, a global priority for Nature Conservancy, the Appalachians Communications Director is responsible for advancing a range of initiatives that achieve conservation outcomes for habitat connectivity, climate resilience and communities. This position drives, implements and manages communication strategies, plans, and projects that build internal and external visibility, supports philanthropic goals, and advances strategic conservation outcomes for people and the planet.
The Appalachians Communications Director implements impactful initiatives aimed at improving internal communications, engaging media, donor and legislative audiences, and supporting conservation outcomes for the Program. They develop and manage the Appalachians communications network across multiple states, are responsible for crafting key stories and messaging, manage the brand, and develop assets that can be adapted to localized geographies. They are responsible for developing an audience segmented marketing and communications plan to support internal leadership, donors and policy-makers as well as goals and go-to-market initiatives. They are embedded with a well-rounded marking network with the ability to access staff, talent and resources to produce content and digital assets. They work closely with a development network, lead fundraisers, conservation and policy staff, and other marketing professionals to achieve conservation outcomes. They facilitate on-going communication between all parts of the region, internal and external stakeholders, and develop and foster relations with key stakeholders and media contacts. The Appalachians Communications Director manages communication strategies and program implementation, which may include high profile or key audiences like Boards of Trustees/Directors and state and country leadership. They may supervise staff and manage budgets, key operational plans, and dissemination of media information. They may provide consultation, media training, coaching and talking points to persons serving as spokesperson(s). This position reports to the Director of Marketing & Communications for the Eastern US, with a strong dotted line to the Appalachians Director.
