Job Description

Research Medical Center is hiring Medical Technologists for seasonal temporary commitments to help meet staffing demands during our high-volume season. Our seasonal Medical Technologists earn $49 per hour with the opportunity to earn a $3,500 Completion Bonus at the end of their 16-week contract.


  • One Year of Experience as a Medical Technologist
  • Completion bonus to be paid to eligible employees after the successful completion of16consecutiveweeks of employment while meetingallshiftrequirements during that time period.
  • All Seasonal RNs/LPNs/OR Techs/Cath Lab Techs/RRTs/MTs/MLTs are required to work a minimum of 72 hours per pay period during the seasonal period (based on selected level).
  • Two (2) weekend shifts are required each 4-week period if applicable.
  • During the course of the 16-week period, the employee is required to work two (2) holiday shifts as defined by Department Manager or designee.
  • Seasonal Staff are PRN status employees and are subject to first call-off. There is no guarantee of hours by the hospital. However, if employees are called off by the facility then they will still be eligible for the completion bonus.
  • Seasonal Staff will not be eligible for benefits, except 401 (k) and retirement contribution per the PRN policy
  • Staff members classified in the Seasonal Program are eligible for Critical Staffing Need Differential payments, when approved for their department and after they have completed three scheduled shifts in a week (i.e. 4th shift is paid at Critical Staffing Differential)
  • Shifts may varybased on needs of the department.
  • After the completion period has been met, employees are eligible to apply to open FT/PT/PRN vacancies.
  • Based on business needs, the seasonal program can be ended at any time.

What you will do in this role:

  • Under the general supervision of the Chemistry Section Manager/Lead Technologist performs preanalytic testing responsibilities including clerical duties, data entry, specimen collection, and specimen processing
  • You will perform waived, moderate complexity, and high complexity biochemical/hematologic testing on blood and body fluids as defined by CLIA 1988
  • You will perform post analytic testing responsibilities including test reporting, verification, investigation of technical, instrumental, and/or physiologic causes of unexpected test results, and monitoring of quality control
  • You will maintain inventory of supplies and reagents
  • You will maintain non-analytic equipment such as refrigerators, freezers, and centrifuges as well as a safe work area
  • You will demonstrate professional work habits and interpersonal skills
  • You will participate in performance improvement activities, evaluation of new test methodologies/instrumentation, and management of laboratory data
  • You will correlate abnormal laboratory data with pathologic states to determine validity and/or whether follow-up tests should be performed
  • You will teach theory and procedures using educational methodology to clinical laboratory science (medical technology) students
  • You will assist with the orientation and training of MLT/CLT, Non-registered MT/CLS, and Registered MT/CLS employees.
  • The primary analytic responsibilities for the employee will be in the Chemistry section (includes Hematology, Urinalysis, Chemistry, and Special Chemistry) of the Laboratory.

What qualifications you will need:

  • Bachelor degree in medical technology/clinical laboratory science or related science required OR Bachelor degree & certification is subspecialty area OR “Grandfathered” as medical technologist by CLIA ’88
  • Certification as MT (ASCP)/CLS or as appropriate, subspecialty certification such as BB, C(ASCP), M(ASCP), etc. required. New graduates will be given a one year grace period from their graduation date to achieve proper ASCP/CLS certification. A new graduate will be required to sign a letter agreement stipulating this requirement.
  • One Year Medical Technologist Experience Required
  • Ability to multi-task while maintaining a high degree of accuracy; detail oriented, verbal communication
  • Basic laboratory equipment and instrumentation, keyboarding
