65% Facility Maintenance Operations

  • Draft and implement preventive maintenance schedules for city buildings and equipment.
  • Understand and assist in the maintenance of security/camera and building control systems.
  • Respond to facility maintenance work ticket requests and track in maintenance log system.
  • Coordinate and supervise the activities of the part-time building maintenance technician.
  • Plan and schedule maintenance work, prioritize assignments, and participate in the maintenance, repair and set-up of City facilities.
  • Serve as liaison for facility maintenance services with City departments and outside contractors.
  • Coordinate and oversee the work of outside vendors on City facilities.
  • Responsible for locating parts, supplies, and materials for city facilities.
  • Manage remodeling and new construction of city facilities as needed.
  • Assist the Operations Manager in all aspects of implementing projects at city facilities.

35% Administration

  • Assist with documentation of information in the work ticket helpdesk knowledge base.
  • Assist with preparation of various contracts, bid information, RFP’s, and reports.
  • Participate in the development of goals and objectives as well as making recommendations for new or improved policies and procedures regarding city facilities.
  • Maintain inventory of facility supplies and order supplies and tools when needed.
  • Assist the Operations Manager in preparation and administration of budgets for facility maintenance and utilities.
  • Develop long range plans for facility maintenance and updates.


Continually looks for new and improved ways of completing the above functions.  Other tasks as assigned will be performed in order to address business needs


Latitude:  Most duties are assigned and then employee arranges tasks in order to complete duties.  Most problem-solving is accomplished in conjunction with supervisor.  Duties will vary from day to day and employee will react to short notice requests for service.  Some problem solving is required.  Decisions are reviewed by supervisor.

Interaction:  Frequent interaction with employees throughout the organization and vendors.  Occasional contact with the general public.


  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Two or more years of college level course work in construction management, management, engineering, or a related field, preferred.
  • Minimum of three years facility maintenance experience, required.
  • Two years of supervisory experience, preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education, experience, and training will be considered.
  • Valid Kansas driver’s license, and driving record must meet commercial liability insurance requirements.

 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to develop long-term plans and programs.
  • Ability to prepare technical reports, estimates, and construction and cost records.
  • Ability to understand operations, service and activities of a building maintenance, repair, and construction program.
  • Ability to read and use blueprints.
  • Knowledge of construction and project management principles.
  • Knowledge of pertinent local, state and federal laws, ordinances, codes, and rules.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to operate office-related equipment, including ability to access and retrieve information from various computer software programs.
  • Ability to meet and deal tactfully with employees and the general public and to communicate effectively and clearly, both orally and in writing.

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:  Some exposure to adverse weather conditions, hazardous elements, and dangerous situations.  Most (75%) work will be completed indoors.  Occasional (25%) carrying, lifting, moving of 50 pounds.  Frequent bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, manual dexterity, and hand/eye coordination throughout the day. Occasional evening hours and overtime are required to respond to facility emergencies.

$23.76 per hour
