Program Information
This is a vocationally oriented program and includes 30 hours of Early Childhood Education courses. Students may add general education requirements to this certificate and additional early childhood hours to complete an associate’s degree. Any exceptions to the list of required courses for this certificate must be approved by the Department Chair of Early Childhood Education, Teresa Thompson, tthompson@butlercc.edu, 316-323-6883.
Requirements
Students must have completed a health physical on the Kansas Department of Health & Environment (KDHE) form before participating in the required program practicums CD 223 and CD 224. Criminal checks will be required for all Early Childhood Education students at the beginning of a practicum and/or at the time of employment in a licensed childcare center. All students must achieve grades of C or better in all subject courses with a CD indicator. All students are rquired to have taken Pediatric First Aid and Pediatric CPR. There are 9 Health and Safety subject areas a newly hired staff member at a KDHE licensed site has to have completed within 30 calendar days of being hired or acting as a volunteer counted within the ratio.
