Job Description


GBA’s six companies provide services in the engineering/architecture, construction, and technology industries and have combined revenues of approximately $80 million and 330 employees in offices located primarily in the Midwest.

GBA’s accounting group has an immediate opening for a Controller to support direct supervision of accounting activities. This position will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer and be part of a team that implements policies and procedures to improve accounting controls within the organization. The Controller will act as a business partner with group leaders in support of accounting functions. A successful candidate should have a strong accounting foundation, an analytic mindset, and strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate clearly to influence business partners. The desire to mentor and develop a cohesive accounting team is vital to the success of this position.

Serve as a business partner with internal leaders and external customers
Review work product of team of accountants (currently five) including daily voucher and cash receipt entries, monthly account reconciliations and periodic preparation of accounting schedules
Manage the month end and year end accounting close processes ensuring that business needs are met
Establish, monitor and ensure compliance with accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
Assist with overseeing the utilization and management of existing accounting systems Deltek Vision, Microsoft Dynamics, and SAP Concur Expense Reporting ensuring operational needs are met across multiple companies
Manage monthly operational reporting process
Prepare monthly financial statements
Manage annual financial and overhead audit processes including preparation of audit documents
Ensure compliance with reporting requirements for sales and use taxes for various states
Encourage continuous process improvements to support changing company operations
Other special projects and responsibilities as assigned
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
At least 4 years of relevant accounting work experience
At least 2 years of public accounting experience
Certified Public Accountant preferred
Experience in the Engineering, Professional Services, or Construction industries preferred
Must be a collaborative, team player who is organized and self-motivated
Strong, proven influential interpersonal communication skills with all levels of an organization
Established reputation as an empathetic manager and role model for the team
Customer oriented, responsive approach to people management
Credit check will be performed
Limited travel
