The Chief Lending Officer provides the leadership, management and vision necessary to develop the overall strategic direction of consumer and mortgage lending products and services to effectively grow the organization’s lending portfolio and achieve its loan growth initiatives on an annual basis while managing the overall risk to the credit union.
+ Develops strategic lending direction in support of organizational strategy and objectives. Responsible for the development of lending goals, strategies, management and results.
+ Ensure compliance with laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures applicable to assigned departments and related credit union activities
+ Analyzes market data, survey feedback and competitor trends with regard to member behavior to set the direction of all lending products and services provided.
+ Keep abreast of related industry, professional and technological trends, issues, products and/or services, as applicable, to ensure the current and future effectiveness and profitability of the credit union’s services, policies, technologies, staff proficiencies and processes as they relate to assigned areas of responsibility.
+ Directs the lending product development efforts while partnering with loan operations, marketing and communications to ensure effective implementation of any new products or enhancement of existing products.
+ Manage the TruHome Mortgage relationship on behalf of credit union by maintaining compliance and service levels set to standards for our members.
+ Responsible for managing appropriate levels of risk within all lending products.
+ Recommends marketing opportunities based on market and competitor research.
+ Participates as a member of the credit pricing team.
+ Develops the annual budget for the areas of responsibility.
+ Promotes honest and open communication throughout the credit union.
+ Demonstrates behaviors that are consistent with the credit union’s values, philosophies, and leadership characteristics.
+ Recruits and retains a management team capable of carrying out the goals and objectives of the lending division.
+ Responsible for coaching, mentoring, hiring, performance management and, creating development and improvement plans.
+ Works with other credit union departments to insure that workflows and processes are providing the best service to internal and external members.
+ Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
+ Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, accounting, business administration, or related field
+ Ten (10) years of lending management experience particularly in setting strategic direction of lending products and services in a financial institution
+ Five (5) years in a senior management role.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
+ Strong knowledge of financial institution lending strategy development and deployment.
+ Strong knowledge of all lending products; both consumer and commercial.
+ Strong consumer and commercial credit analysis experience and comprehensive knowledge of loan underwriting guidelines.
+ Thorough knowledge of collection and loss recovery practices and familiarity with various state laws and statutes.
+ Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common financial reports, and legal documents.
+ Ability to develop short and long-term plans.
+ Ability to effectively lead and develop leaders.
+ Ability to motivate, influence and interact with diverse groups of people.
+ Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
+ Ability to speak and present information effectively in front of large groups.
+ Ability to build strong relationships throughout the credit union.
+ Ability to maintain highly confidential information.
+ Strong communication skills, including interpersonal, verbal and written.
+ Ability to resolve interpersonal conflict and miscommunications.
+ Must be able to be bonded.
