Under direction, supervises and performs a variety of manual labor in the construction and maintenance of city streets, infrastructure, and equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
-Organizes and directs the maintenance, repair, and construction of highways, bridges, streets, alleys, curbs, sewers, storm drains, sidewalks, and parking lots.
-Schedules and assigns crews and equipment to projects
-Repairs streets, manholes, and street signs
-Drives vehicles and operates equipment
-Performs additional duties as assigned
-Knowledge of the materials, equipment, procedures, and practices used to construct and maintain highways, roads, bridges, and streets.
-Knowledge of the mechanical operation of light and heavy equipment and lawn tools, and ability to make routine repairs to such equipment
-Ability to supervise work of others
-Ability to listen to, follow and communicate oral and written instructions
-Ability to work well with others, including other departments and entities
-Ability to communicate with the public and others in a positive manner
Education and Experience
-Completion of high school or GED required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
-Four years’ experience performing construction and maintenance on streets required; five years preferred
-A current Kansas driver’s license
-A Class B driver’s license
-Intense physical effort is required. Individual must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, carry, push, pull, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, handle, grasp, speak, and listen for extended periods of time.
-Work involves frequent exposure to unpleasant elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, loud noises, chemicals, etc.
SALARY RANGE: The starting salary for this position is $18.95 per hour plus benefits.
