TITLE:  Purchasing Specialist

LOCATION: Newton, Kansas

REPORTS TO: Production Manager



Our Company requires a skilled, seasoned aircraft materials and parts Purchasing Specialist to participate in restarting its aircraft manufacturing operation with an efficient flow of materials to achieve standard-rate production.  The successful specialist can expect to advance to Purchasing Manager or ERP Manager.


Weatherly Aircraft Company is an American manufacturer of agricultural-aircraft, since 1976.  The product is the 620-B agricultural-aircraft.  The Company has recently relocated from California to the Wichita area, the aviation center of America as well as the center of our traditional market.  We are also migrating our production from a job-shop to a standard rate production-line.  The Company has heretofore relied on related proprietary and JobBOSS software applications.

We are recruiting a team of seasoned aviation-industry professionals to lead the restart, including a materials purchaser.


The strategic responsibilities of the Purchasing Specialist will include the following:

  • Develop the present job-shop procurement process to support a standard-rate production-line, employing best industry practices. 

  • Comply with related FAA practices and regulations, as well as our quality system.

In addition, the Purchasing Specialists operational responsibilities will include the following:

  • Carry out all functional responsibilities of a manufacturing purchasing department or agent, from Purchase Order to delivery, to Inventory.

  • Develop and implement purchasing strategies.
  • Maintain the supplier/vendor database, purchase records, and related documentation.

  • Manage supplier relations and negotiate contracts, prices, timelines, etc.

  • Coordinate with inventory-control to determine and manage inventory needs.

  • Prepare cost estimates and manage budgets.


  • Associate or Bachelor Degree of Business Administration, or a related field.

  • Certified Purchasing Professional (CPP); APICS certification preferred.

  • Purchasing-software knowledge required.

  • Solid knowledge of supply-chain management required.


  • Purchasing position at a civil aircraft manufacturing supplier (airframe fabrication, powerplant, or major aircraft assembly).

  • Procurement Department supervision experience preferred.

  • Purchasing, 5 years minimum required.

  • Logistics, 3 years minimum preferred.


  • Solutions and goal oriented — takes initiative to succeed.

  • Team player.
  • Organized and orderly.
  • Self-starter.  Works with minimum direction and supervision.


  • Salary:    $52,000-$65,000.

  • Benefits:   Full, after 3 months.

  • Performance Review:  Initial at 6-months, and then annually.

  • Career track:   Purchasing Manager / ERP Manager.
