About This Role:
Kansas State University Libraries invite applications and nominations for a creative, and collaborative individual to serve in the position of Writer/Editor for the Office of Communications and Marketing. This position reports to the public information officer.
Following the May 22, 2018 fire in Hale Library, the university’s main library, the administration, faculty and staff, who had been looking forward to the creation of a first-floor learning commons, will instead reimagine the institution from the ground up.
The Office of Communications and Marketing supports the mission of the Libraries by promoting its services and resources and communicating initiatives across multiple audiences through social media, events, publications, marketing, public relations, and donor engagement and support. They maintain the Libraries’ brand and voice and work creatively as a team to generate new ideas and solve problems. The Office has won several awards including a 2019 CASE Circle of Excellence Gold Award for the K-State Libraries Magazine.
To be successful in this position, the incumbent must demonstrate excellent communication and organizational skills to establish and maintain productive working relationships with colleagues in an environment where flexibility and collaboration are essential. The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to accuracy and prefer working as a member of a team.
Works cohesively as a member of the communications team to plan, create and implement campaigns and projects
Manages the Libraries’ social media presence including content creation, growth and engagement strategies, and analytics
Writes, edits, and maintains a consistent voice and tone for the Libraries’ news releases, magazines, brochures, website, and other print and electronic materials
Conducts research and interviews as needed on assigned topics
Acquires knowledge of Libraries and University to convey information accurately and concisely
Supervises one or more student employees

What You’ll Need to Succeed:
Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications, public relations or related communications field
One year of experience in communications, journalism, public relations or relevant experience
Knowledge of AP style book, proofreading, printing and publishing procedures
Knowledge of graphic design principles and experience working with designers on projects
Excellent interpersonal skills to maintain effective relationships with internal and external contacts
Excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to organize and express information in a concise, engaging manner
Time management ability, especially for managing multiple assignments with tight deadlines
Experience with social media management including Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram
Experience with Microsoft Office suite

Salary Range/ Pay Rate:
$ 18.35 – $ 28.43 per hour
Actual salary will be determined based on the candidate’s experience, education, internal equity and departmental funding. Salary offers are typically made between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range. The range indicated includes both the typical hiring range and potential future progression.
