Salary: $16.00 Hourly

Reports to: Streets Superintendent

Salary is dependent on applicant’s experience. The starting salary range is $14.50-16.50/hour.


Primary Functions of Work: This work is routine and semi-skilled in nature, involving operation of equipment in addition to other tasks as assigned. The employee must learn to operate motorized equipment including: tractor, mower, motor grader, backhoe, snow plow, and dump truck used in the maintenance of City streets. Although the employee works under the direct supervision of the department head, some tasks require working independently following prescribed instructions, procedures, and policies.

Essential Functions of Work
•Cuts weeds, grass, and brush with or without power equipment.
•Assists in maintenance of roads, ditches, and street surfaces.
•Operates heavy equipment.
•Performs routine mechanical maintenance on City equipment.
•Other related duties as deemed necessary or as required.

Position Requirements:

Education: High School Diploma or GED preferred but not required.

Experience: Working knowledge of maintenance and operation of heavy equipment.

Skills: The ability to follow oral instructions and read and comprehend written materials. Must possess a valid Class “A” commercial driver’s license with appropriate endorsements to operate City dump trucks.

Problem Solving: Routine daily tasks involve minor problem solving abilities, i.e. troubleshooting equipment breakdowns, remediation of drainage problems, etc.

Decision Making: Limited decision making exists in this position. Duties follow prescribed instructions, procedures, and policies.

Accountability: Employee is not responsible for budgetary control and does not participate in the annual budget process.

Supervision: Supervision is provided by the department head. Employee occasionally has supervisory responsibility over subordinate personnel.

Personal Relations: Routine contact with other City employees and the general public.

Working Conditions: Heavy manual labor is required; extreme weather conditions and working with fuels, oils and maintenance chemicals are factors in this position; frequent exposure to moving parts and machinery. Hearing protection is frequently required.

Physical Requirements: 75% of the work involves heavy physical labor and exertion to manually move, lift, carry, or push heavy (50 lb. or more) objects. Climbing in and out of ditches and manholes, bending, stooping, and/or shoveling as required; climbing and reaching to trim trees, change light bulbs etc.; frequently operates heavy equipment for extended periods of time.
