Summary of Responsibilities:
•Maintain/repair/install electrical devices, components, equipment and systems, ensuring they are operating safely and in good working order.
•High school diploma or equivalent by hire date
•Five years at the journeyman level in the electrical trade in a maintenance and/or construction environment
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
•Thorough knowledge of codes pertaining to maintenance and installation of electrical systems.
•Good oral and written communication skills.
•Ability to work with minimum of supervision.
•Ability to install new electrical work
•Ability to complete electrical maintenance and repair of wiring, devices, components and systems, including motors, relays, magnetic starters, transformers, etc.
•Ability to run electrical conduit for installation of new wiring, devices and equipment
•Ability to read and interpret electrical plans and specifications
•Ability to complete other electrical duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Required Licenses, Certificates & Registrations:
•Valid Kansas Driver’s License

Position Description Information:
For what purpose, with whom and how frequently are contacts made with the public, other employees or officials?
•The majority of contacts are made with Facilities Services personnel for the purpose of exchanging work related information. Occasionally, contact with supervisors or University department heads and administrators are made during maintenance and repair of specialized equipment. The purpose of the contact is to plan, coordinate and advise on work efforts, interpret guidelines or instructions, elicit opinions or give guidance on the basis of facts to resolve common issues or problems when the information is not sensitive in nature or the individuals or groups are working toward mutual; goals.
Regular Hours of Work
7:45 AM to 4:30 PM Monday-Friday, also participates in after-hours stand-by call back program
•In the course of performing the tasks assigned to this position an incumbent is exposed to hazards that could result in serious injury if safety procedures are not followed. The employee is required to work under uncomfortable conditions at times. The work environment involves hazards, risks or discomforts typical of working with or around machinery with exposed moving parts, irritant chemicals, heavy equipment or abusive or hostile clientele. Exposure to disagreeable weather conditions and extreme levels of temperature, ventilation, lighting and sound are normal. Protective clothing or gear and specific safety standards or procedures may be required. Serious injury is possible.
