Position Purpose:

The Product Design group is responsible for identifying technologies that enhance pet and pet parent liking of pet foods and supporting the implementation of those technologies across our premium wellness and therapeutic product portfolios. This senior scientist position will be responsible for leading key programs that focus on product quality and performance throughout the life of a product. This will involve designing and executing laboratory experiments on pet foods and ingredients, providing supporting analytical data to understand performance (from both human and pet standpoints) and making recommendations to cross functional teams based on study findings. This will involve working closely with product development, quality, supply chain, and ingredient procurement colleagues to ensure successful project development and product performance is achieved.

Let’s talk about responsibilities:

• Technical lead for programs that monitor and drive optimized product performance. This includes programs designed to establish product specifications, shelf life, and ingredient/ product trouble shooting

• Validation of product performance through routine and non-routine analyses (focus on gas chromotography)

• Partner with product developers, engineers and quality team members to optimize product and process development

• Communicate findings and recommendations through finished study reports, published SOPs and presentations

• Ongoing quality, safety, and related training

Applied Knowledge and Skills

• Extensive food chemistry knowledge (water activity, structure/function, rheology, reaction kinetics, etc.)

• Experience performing analyses in a laboratory setting. Specific expertise with gas chromotography (must be able to prepare samples, analyze data and develop methods)

• Experience designing and running scientific experiments

• Efficient at utilizing Google/Microsoft productivity apps & statistical software

• Excellent communication and project management skills

What you need for this position:

• 5+ years of Animal or Food Industry Experience

• Minimum degree requirement: MS in Food Science, Chemistry, Food Engineering or related field

• Demonstrated mastery of food product performance research and understanding of food science principles

• Experience in analytical research (specifically Gas Chromotography)

• Demonstrated ability to design and run scientific experiments

• Excellent communication skills (written and oral)

• Excellent interpersonal and team skills; ability to communicate and influence in a cross-functional environment.

• Strong analytical, problem-solving and conceptual skills

It is an advantage to have:

• PhD in Food Science, Chemistry, Food Engineering or related field
