Job Description

Summary:

The Resource Nurse is responsible for using their expertise, experience and cardiac knowledge in various roles within the Heart Center with focus towards the cardiology office. Primary duties in this role include developing, implementing and coordinating orientation for multiple disciplines in the Heart Center; becoming the lead EPIC support for the Heart Center; assisting with triaging and scheduling consults along with being the first patient contact for all emergency situations throughout the Heart Center; and performing and overseeing EECP treatments on referred patients. The responsibilities of this role are interchangeable depending on the need for each area.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

? Performs all duties described in the job description for the Cardiology Office nurse.

? Demonstrates knowledge of the Kansas State Nurse Practice Act and follows the statutes and regulations therein.

? Demonstrates appropriate delegation of tasks and duties in the direction and coordination of health care team members, patient care and department activities in accordance with the Kansas State Nurse Practice Act.

Orientation Support Responsibilities

? Assists Manager of the Cardiology Office with chart audits.

? Develops and updates tools to accomplish employee orientation.

? Develops and updates tools to educate and assess competency of staff in basic categories of job duties including new techniques, technology and medications.

? Coordinates and implements processes to orient, educate and assess competency of employees.

? Documents employee orientation and competency to include developing competency matrix for all job categories.

? Provides opportunities for CV Service Line departments to participate in educational and assessment programs.

? Assists with data collection of CV Service Line Quality measures.

? Schedules monthly/quarterly Lunch & Learns for staff.

EECP Nurse

? Works with department director, manager and medical director in developing and operating ECP Clinic to include: o Policies and procedures o Documentation tools o Physical facility o Equipment inventory o Patient database o Billing mechanisms

? Performs baseline assessment of patients; educates and prepares patients regarding EECP therapy; assess patient’s response to treatment and response appropriately.

? Completes documentation and patient charges in a thorough and accurate manner.

? Operates EECP equipment in a manner consistent with established procedures to maximize the benefit to the patient and works with Facilities Management personnel to coordinate required repairs and maintenance.

? Administers medications at the direction of the attending physician.

? Understands the pathophysiology and treatment of coronary artery disease as it relates to the treated population.

Epic Support Responsibilities

? Serves as department representative to the SuperUser Committee.

? Serves as Heart Center lead SuperUser.

? Oversees Heart Center SuperUsers – schedules extra meetings or classes as needed to implement EPIC upgrades or changes.

? Attends SUOC meetings and takes HC requests to meeting.

? Works with new orientee on using EPIC.

? Conducts meetings with EPIC upgrades and changes as needed.

? Assists as EPIC support.

? Develops solutions to processes with EPIC to allow workflows to be more efficient and increase patient safety.

Office Doc Phone Support Responsibilities

? Triage and schedule consults through EPIC Workque, email, phone calls, or fax (priority

given to TriWest, Non VA and urgent consults).

? Triage calls from patients and physicians.

? Communicates high priority abnormal results (stress test, event/holter, ultrasound, lab, EKG) as directed.

? Responds to emergency situations at the Heart Center.

? Assists with completion of monthly or quarterly PI initiatives.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, BSN preferred. Meets educational preparation or other qualifications within specified time frames as determined/outlined by specific department policy.

? Minimum 3 years experience in cardiovascular setting preferred. ? Non-tobacco user.

Certificates and Licenses:

Current RN licensure in the State of Kansas

ACLS required within 3 months of hire/transfer to department.
