Job Description

Registered Nurse – PRN, Days, 7a – 7p

The RN in the Observation Care Unit provides care to all patients who meet observation / outpatient status including but not limited to outpatient extended stay recovery, IV infusions, blood transfusions, 23 hour rule out MI patients, and patients needing observation for all symptom driven illness. The RN in the Infusion Center provides care to all patients who need outpatient services including but not limited to IV infusions, blood transfusions, injections, dressing changes, and patients needing outpatient services that they are otherwise unable to receive in other settings. The RN staff nurse will prescribe, delegate, and coordinate nursing care and other services. Care is given in accordance with established standards and protocols, policies and procedures and is consistent with applicable federal and state regulations and professional ethics. Nursing care is accomplished through: •The Nursing Process

•Performance of Diagnostic and Therapeutic Procedures
•Completion of Medical Orders and
•Collaboration with other health team members and the patient, family, and / or significant others.
Care is delegated as appropriate and is provided by prioritizing within the constraints of available resources.

All RN staff nurses are responsible for a core set of competencies which can be applied in any nursing area and are oriented fully in areas where they are expected to function independently and float to areas throughout the hospital when the observation care unit and/or infusion center is closed. The RN staff is expected to demonstrate authority, responsibility, and accountability for their individual nursing practice in addition to utilizing educational opportunities for professional growth. The RN staff nurse must be a well rounded nurse, with ability to care for a wide variety of patients, and deliver the education needed for those patients, in a short amount of time. Must perform other duties as requested or assigned. Is expected to work varying hours, holidays, and weekends.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: •BSN preferred but not required LICENSE / CERTIFICATION / REGISTRATION: Fulfillment of Education and certification requirements are mandatory for this position. •Current Kansas RN license or ability to obtain licensure, per Kansas State Board of Nursing regulations.

•BLS- Satisfactory course completion with current card or ability to complete within 3 months or at the next available course offered by NMRMC. Not required if ACLS certified.
•ACLS- Satisfactory course completion with current card or ability to complete within 6 months or at the next available course offered by NMRMC.
•NRP- Certification preferred, but not required.
•PALS or ENPC- Certification preferred, but not required.

EXPERIENCE: •One year experience as an RN preferred, but not required.

•Computer experience preferred or ability to learn computer operation.
