B urns & McDonnell’s world headquarters in Kansas City, MO, is looking for an Assistant Mechanical Detailer/Designer to prepare 2D and 3D drawings supporting Terminals & Pipelines projects\. This position offers challenging work with significant project variety at a successful, growing company\. The chosen candidate will work under the guidance of experienced mechanical engineers and designers to complete projects in refined product terminals and hydrocarbon process industry\. The Assistant Mechanical Detailer/Designer will work on an integrated design team within our Oil, Gas & Chemical Global Practice to perform the following duties:

+ Assist in planning and preparing detailed drawings for the mechanical design on pipeline terminals and truck, ship, and rail loading facilities\.

+ Use 3D CAD and other software, including Plant 3D, Navisworks, AutoCad, Microstation V8i, Xcel, Bluebeam and Adobe Acrobat\.

+ Use 3D software to assist in modeling piping, fittings and equipment\.

+ Plan and prepare non\-routine drawings with complex features using information from rough sketches, detailed engineering notes or brief verbal guidance\.

+ Develop detailed layouts and details using acquired knowledge of fundamental concepts and practices pertaining to the mechanical discipline\.

+ Responsible for the set\-up of discipline specific drawings at project start\-up\.

+ Demonstrate knowledge of CAD standards and best practices\.

+ Learn and successfully apply company, client, and project drafting standards and procedures\.

+ Demonstrate ability to apply formulas, principles, and practices to complete required drawings\.

+ Provide a range of drawing production work including problem analysis, layout, detailing, drafting, and calculations on project of substantial variety and complexity\.

+ You will be expected to understand and work to project deadlines and budgets\.

+ Coordinate drafting activities with other designers, drafters, and design disciplines\.

+ Successfully communicate and correspond with internal design resources and external clients and personnel\.

+ Work both independently and in a team environment as the project requires\.

+ Execute design changes and project drawing revisions\.

+ Maintain CAD proficiency and work toward mastering current CAD systems\.

+ All other duties as assigned\.


+ Bachelor’s degree in Drafting technology or similar and 2 years’ previous drafting experience or CAD\-related Associates degree and 4 year’s previous drafting experience\.

+ Must be proficient in at least one 3D design software package, and able to work in multiple software packages when necessary, with a strong preference for Plant 3D\. CADWorx, PDS, or SmartPlant experience can be helpful\.

+ Related consulting experience preferred\.

+ Strong analytical and problem\-solving skills\.

+ Excellent written & verbal communication skills Demonstrated ability to work an effective team member\.

+ Routinely uses higher\-level commands, timesaving programs and routines\.
