Job Description


Burns & McDonnell’s world headquarters in Kansas City, MO, is looking for a Structural Drafting Technician to revise and prepare 2D and 3D drawings in support of projects for Food & Consumer Products and general manufacturing clients\. The chosen candidate will work under the guidance of experienced structural engineers and designers to complete projects in food and consumer products, manufacturing, and commercial markets\. Typical projects include design of both new and existing buildings as well as process and miscellaneous structures\. The Structural Drafting Technician will work on an integrated design team within our Global Facilities Global Practice to perform the following duties:

+ Assist in preparing detailed drawings for the structural design on manufacturing buildings and process facilities\.

+ Use 3D CAD and other software, including Tekla Structures, Revit, AutoCad, Microstation V8i, Bluebeam and Adobe Acrobat\.

+ Use 3D software to assist in modeling columns, beams, connections and surfaces\.

+ Demonstrate knowledge of CAD standards and best practices\.

+ Learn and successfully apply company, client, and project drafting standards and procedures\.

+ Demonstrate ability to apply formulas, principles, and practices to complete required drawings\.

+ Provide a range of drawing production work including problem analysis, layout, detailing, drafting, and calculations on project of substantial variety and complexity\.

+ Demonstrate knowledge of assigned and related disciplines\.

+ Coordinate drafting activities with other designers, drafters, and design disciplines\.

+ Successfully communicate and correspond with internal design resources and external clients and personnel\.

+ Have the ability and experience to work independently and in a team environment as the project requires\.

+ Execute design changes and project drawing revisions\.

+ Maintain CAD proficiency and work toward mastering current CAD systems\.

+ All other duties as assigned\.


+ Bachelor’s or Associates degree in drafting technology with a minimum of one year of applicable experience\.

+ Proficiency in at least one 3D design software package\. Revit or Tekla Stru ctures experience is preferred\.

+ Coursework and/or experience in Structural or Architectural system design is preferred\.

+ Strong analytical and problem\-solving skills\.

+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills\.

+ Ability to independently complete required drawings\.

+ Previous internship or related consulting experience is preferred\.
