Communication Manager, Special Missions

The Manager of Special Missions Communications is responsible for positioning Textron Aviation as the authority on special mission airborne solutions for global governmental and commercial customers\. As a leader in strategic integrated communications and marketing, this position will shape and implement the company’s Special Missions messaging and strategy to support and win new business development opportunities worldwide\.
The position works closely with members of the Senior Leadership Team, internal business teams, industry partners, customers and media on a consistent basis to implement a comprehensive external and internal Special Missions communications program, designed to inform, educate and engage external and internal stakeholders on the company’s capabilities, products and position within the marketplace\. This role requires a commitment to providing in\-depth research and development of the Special Missions programs and customers to help determine the best communications channels to engage with the unique audience\.
I\.Bring together a variety of programs and business leaders, including members of the Senior Leadership Team, to establish a comprehensive Special Missions communication and messaging strategy\.
II\.Lead the Senior Leadership, marketing, advertising and sales teams in Special Missions message and voice alignment across a wide variety of communication channels\.
III\.Oversee the creation, implementation and execution of external communications programs and public relations activities, including news release development and media interface\. This includes travel to key domestic and international trade shows and other venues involving media and company executives for Special Missions purposes\.
IV\.Consult with internal legal and regulatory compliance teams to ensure Special Missions external communications products, media training and media engagements are compliant with International Traffic in Arms Regulations \(ITAR\) and Export Administration Regulations \(EAR\)\.
V\.Develop effective relationships with key members of the media and serve as an official company spokesperson for Special Missions for local, trade, business, consumer and international media\.
VI\.Engage agency, freelance and contacting partners and oversee strategies to engage audiences in key global markets\.
VII\.Develop and lead the strategy of content development for various channels, including employee, customer and social media platforms, by leveraging internal and external resources\.
VIII\.Provide counsel and support for crisis management and executive communications, including aiding in the preparation of key external presentations, talking points and/or speeches as needed for senior leaders\.
IX\.Develop executive thought leadership program and facilitate exposure that supports the company’s industry leadership position in Special Missions\.
X\.Develop and sustain processes to continually improve the efficiency of the communications function and channels, including measuring the impact of communications and accuracy of resulting coverage\.
XI\.Partner with other Textron business units to leverage communications opportunities, specifically around joint presence at tradeshows and events\.
+ Bachelor’s degree required in:
+ Master’s degree preferred
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in media relations and strategic communications
- Experience in government and commercial special missions preferred
- Experience in the aviation industry and global exposure preferred
- Basic understanding of government purchasing and contracts processes preferred
- Understanding of the International Traffic in Arms \(ITAR\) and Export Administration Regulations \(EAR\) required
- Must have outstanding writing, editing and proofreading skills utilizing AP style
- Excellent verbal communications skills are also essential
- Demonstrated team player with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to influence within all levels of the organization and with external stakeholders
- Ability to assimilate information from a variety of sources, analyze information, and recommend and direct courses of action to be taken
- Ability to take initiative, multitask and complete projects, all while remaining flexible and responsive when faced with multiple, time\-sensitive requests
- Excellent project management skills to include organizing, planning and execution experience, including experience managing outside agencies and vendors
- Motivated, detail\-oriented and self\-directed to deliver high\-quality results
- Creativity, interpersonal savvy and the ability to manage diversity
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe products, as well as knowledgeable in social networking and content marketing forums
- Job located in Wichita, Kansas and includes domestic and international travel \(20%\)
