Senior Visual Designer
H&R Block, the world’s leader in tax preparation services, is looking for a Senior Visual Designer. This position is located at our corporate headquarters, in the premier downtown Power & Light District of Kansas City, where everything is either steps or a streetcar ride away. H&R Block is a highly strategic, data-driven company looking to grow our visual design team with exceptional talent and creativity! Our ideal Senior Visual Designer should be able to lead, manage and participate in the conceptual development, production, and delivery of cross-platform experiences within a collaborative team environment. Through iteration and evolution, these experiences should not only be flawlessly designed, but are expected to answer specific user and client needs throughout all touch points of our digital commerce ecosystem.
In this role, you’ll be responsible for all aspects of creative production, including designing our online experiences, guiding our external creative agencies and executing on their designs. You will be maintaining scalability of treatments and content, saving out, generating and optimizing creative assets, image cropping and resizing, image retouching and refining digital designs and layouts for optimal functionality and conversion rates.
It is vital that you have an in-depth knowledge of current design software and trends and have the ability to communicate effectively with business partners, product managers, and vendors.
What you’ll do…
1. Product/Feature Design.
+ Work closely with www.hrblock.com team of fellow UI Designers, UX designers, Developers, Engineers, Strategists, Copywriters and Product Teams to create effective and elegant design solutions
+ Interpret business needs and end-user requirements into well-designed features and interfaces
+ Participate in making design trade-offs between usability and available technology using understanding of development concerns that occur during the design and development cycles
+ Determine possible design innovation points and drive ideas from concept to reality for all projects, understanding principles that drive successful designs
+ Apply conceptual thinking across various platforms while considering user-needs, business goals and technical feasibility
+ Provide thought leadership on consumer-centered design, combined with knowledge/understanding of the business and technology perspectives
1. Facilitation of user-centric design implementation.
+ Work with the graphic designers, development team, and project managers to ensure implementation of the specific designs
+ Design end-to-end experiences using qualitative and quantitative research to uncover insights, learn about user behavior and verify design concepts
+ Develop interaction and user interface (UI) guidelines that describe aspects of the navigation, appearance, and interaction of H&R Block products
+ Drive improvements in customer satisfaction and implement design changes to support both business and user goals
+ Other duties as assigned
What you’ll bring to the role…
+ Bachelor’s degree in Design or related field, or equivalent combination of education and work experience in the computer-human interaction field designing interfaces for cross-platform, multi-device ecosystems
+ 8+ years of work experience designing consumer web-based or software products, using a consumer-centered design approach
+ Experience using design and prototyping tools, such as Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite, inVision, and Axure, UXPin
+ Demonstrable skills in color theory, illustration, data visualization, and iconography
+ Strong understanding and experience designing for ADA/WCAG 2.0 compliance
+ Strong understanding of product development cycle
+ Passion for infusing a human perspective into digital
+ Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
+ Exceptional listening skills
+ Capacity for strategic and associative thinking

+ Product knowledge and experience with financial products
+ Experience managing multiple projects within the competing schedules
+ Experience working with multidisciplinary teams – engineering, application development, documentation, quality assurance, customer service, and marketing teams
