Job Description

Summary :

The RN Supervisor is responsible for the coordination of the daily nursing activities of the Medical Imaging department. These include but are not limited to utilization of skills in organization, leadership, planning, implementing, evaluating and providing care as it relates to the age and specific needs to the patient. Works within the framework of the State Nurse Practice Act and follows all hospital and clinic policies and procedures. Complies with hospital and nursing standards in the performance of job duties and responsibilities. Supports the goals and objectives of the Medical Imaging department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Direct Patient Care Services:

+ Assists manager/director with interviews/selection of employees.

+ Schedules, assigns and evaluates staff, adjusting hours as necessary.

+ Orientates new staff and assures that training and education needs of staff are met.

+ Assures competencies are current and accurate.

+ Provides input in annual evaluations of staff.

+ Coordinates activities of nursing staff to ensure patient care is carried out as directed.

+ Participates and ensures nursing staff are included in pertinent committees/councils.

+ Assist staff with patient care.

+ Interacts with patients, families, physicians, and staff to coordinate referrals and care of patients.

+ Assists manager/director with evaluation and implementation of department’s policies and protocols as they pertain to nursing.

+ Participates in infection control and quality assessment activities and analysis.

+ Investigates and resolves complaints, or refers unusual problems to superior.

+ Delegation of tasks and duties in the direction and coordination of health care team members, patient care, and nursing activities in accordance with Kansas State Nurse Practice Act.

+ Takes patient’s vital signs, treats wounds, and evaluates physical condition of patient.

+ Contacts physician and hospital to arrange for further medical treatment, when needed.

+ Interacts with patients, families, physicians, physician office staff and hospital staff in both scheduling of exams and department customer relations.

+ Assists with coordination of referral, care of patients, and referrals to ancillary departments.

+ Demonstrates knowledge of the Kansas State Nurse Practice Act and follows the statutes and regulations therein.

+ Demonstrates appropriate delegation of tasks and duties in the direction and coordination of health care team members, patient care and department activities in accordance with the Kansas State Nurse Practice Act.

+ Provides necessary nursing care to all patients needing such care while in the Radiology Department.

+ Assists with and monitors patients during Lexiscan (stress) infusion and paracentesis/thoracentesis procedures.

+ Calls in prescription of patients with IV contrast allergy for pre-medication.

+ Assumes care of IP in the departments after SBAR handoff from IP Nursing staff.

+ Performs nursing functions in cases requiring Moderate Sedation.

+ Takes call to support the department after "routine’ hours of operation.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

Graduate of a CCNE or NLNAC accredited school of nursing. Bachelor Degree in Nursing preferred. One year of professional nursing experience required, Radiology experience preferred.

Certificates and Licenses:

Current RN licensure in the State of Kansas. ACLS certification is required.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Directly supervises approximately 2-5 employees.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is frequently required to lift up to 25 pounds. The employee may occasionally be required to lift up to 50 pounds. Physical stamina is required working under stress in emergency situations. The vision requirements include: peripheral vision, depth perception, color differentiation, good hand/eye coordination and ability to adjust focus.
