Job Description

Summary of Position: The mechanic is responsible for the maintenance and repair of the Starkey Inc. fleet. The duties include diagnosing and evaluating vehicles, follow up preventative maintenance schedule, oil changes, batteries, and tire rotation and replacement. The maintenance position will be responsible for performing general repairs to Community Living homes, main facility and grounds, and will work directly with the Director of Facilities with the day to day operation of maintenance. The duties listed below are essential functions of the position.

General Responsibilities:

Vehicle Maintenance

  • Receive and complete vehicle maintenance work orders from Transportation Manager.
    Ensure vehicle maintenance shop is clean, including but not limited to sweeping and mopping floors.
    Ensure restroom is cleaned on a weekly basis.
    Ensure sub vehicles and vehicles used for out of town trips are fueled and kept in clean condition.
    Stock supplies as they are delivered to the maintenance shop, and notify mechanic when supplies are low.
    Perform light vehicle maintenance as needed.
    Complete oil changes, flat tire repairs, light replacements, wiper replacements, etc., as needed.
    Pull maintenance vehicles into shop each night.
    Secure shop and pen area(s) each night.
    Assist in transferring vehicle(s) to and from outside vendors.
    Provide bus driver transportation backup, as needed.
    Maintain commercial driver’s license and DOT health certificate.
    Develop positive supportive relationships with coworkers.
    Communicate using person first language.
    Use and encourage communication with persons served that is positive and respectful, and promotes independence.
    Demonstrate the energy of caring by showing initiative, being resourceful, and being respectful and supportive of others.
    Promote the independence of persons served.

Properly use and maintain all equipment.
Immediately report any accidents and/or injuries that occur on the job.


Education: High School diploma or General Equivalency Degree (GED)

Experience: Two (2) years experience as a vehicle repair mechanic preferred.

Requirement: Valid Kansas driver’s license or from the state they reside with commercial driver’s license (CDL) endorsement
