Summary of Responsibilities
•Wichita State University Department of Anthropology invites applications for a full-time, tenure-eligible, Assistant Professor position.
•We are seeking a socio-cultural anthropologist who actively engages in North American ethnographic research and is committed to involve students in their fieldwork.
•The candidate is required to teach a full load of three regular courses (3 credit hours each) per semester as scheduled by the department chair, in addition to teaching independent reading, research, lab, and field studies courses.
•The candidate must demonstrate preparedness to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in socio-cultural anthropology as offered in the course catalog, also to include introductory courses on-line.
•The candidate is expected to develop topical and area courses in their field of expertise at the undergraduate and graduate levels which have an applied dimension.
•The candidate is required to work with and advise undergraduate and graduate students in our program, and is expected to work actively to recruit and retain students for the program.
•The continued pursuit of external funding to support undergraduate and graduate research is required.
•Ph.D. in Anthropology (Sub-Discipline: Socio-Cultural) in hand at time of employment.
•The candidate must have demonstrated proficiency in teaching and research, documented through teaching evaluations, published articles, and grants received.
•The candidate must demonstrate ongoing engagement in scholarly publications and research grant activity.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
•The candidate must have North American ethnographic expertise.
•The candidate should be able to operate technology associated with research and instruction.
•The candidate must be able to teach both undergraduate level and graduate level courses.
•The candidate must be able and willing to teach in a class-room setting and online.
Required Licenses, Certificates & Registrations
•Seeking a candidate whose topical specialties add to those we currently have (religion, visual anthropology, anthropological linguistics).
•The candidate is encouraged to collaborate in research as appropriate with the researchers in other departments and colleges on campus as well as at other institutions.
•All candidates for faculty positions should be able to demonstrate the ability to successfully educate and empower a diverse student population.
