Job Description

1. Provides hospital care to hospitalized patients (inpatients: acute and skilled care; observation patients; same day care patients) assigned to him/her including performing a history and physical examination, writing a treatment plan, ordering treatments, medications, consultations, and keeping progress notes covering diagnostic evaluation, progress, and discharge. 2. Completes daily rounds and progress notes on each assigned patient when scheduled to work. 3. Complies with clinical guidelines adopted by the hospital related to disease management, medications, and diagnostic testing. Complies with National Hospital Inpatient Quality Reporting Program measures. 4. Achieves and maintains proficiency in endotracheal intubation and ventilator management. 5. Responds to Rapid Response events and Code Blue events within 15 minutes, and leads resuscitation efforts. 6. Performs pre-operative medical clearance consults as requested. Accepts consultations on post-operative patients with medical care needs. 7. Performs medical consults as requested. 8. Provides care to Intensive Care Unit (ICU) patients. 9. May provide care in the Emergency Department (ED) as needed to provide timely care to Emergent patients; May provide care to returning patients following ED visit; May provide care to patients registered as “Clinic” status patients. 10. Maintains a presence in the hospital. Meet with patients and families as needed. Is accessible to patients and families as well as hospital personnel and medical staff. 11. Available in person within 15 minutes for admissions and consultations and changes in assigned patient’s condition warranting the physician’s presence. 12. Communicates with Patient’s Primary Care Physician to provide necessary information to insure continuity of care/proper follow up for patients in the outpatient setting. Information to include diagnosis, treatment provided. 13. Develops and maintains professional rapport with hospital employees, medical staff members including allied health professionals and emergency room physicians, and patients, families and visitors. 14. Provides prompt responses to calls from physicians and hospital personnel related to patient care. 15. Completes narrative summaries and other documents required for adequate follow up. 16. Follows the rules and regulations as set forth by contracted health care plans. 17. Performs all duties and services in full compliance with The Joint Commission and CMS. 18. Participates in medical staff and hospital committees as assigned. 19. Participates in peer review activities as requested. 20. Provides education to hospital employees and others as requested. 21. Attends discharge planning conferences on assigned patients as appropriate. 22. Develops and maintains proficiency with utilization review criteria .23. Demonstrates Electronic Medical Record, care provider order entry (CPOE) and computer proficiency. 24. Performs other duties as assigned.
II. JOB DESCRIPTION: QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Knowledge of the state and federal laws pertaining to medicine and to hospitals. Education: Graduate of an accredited school of medicine with successful completion of an internship and residency at a recognized institution in family practice, Internal Medicine or Internal Medicine/Pediatrics. Experience: Two to five years Hospitalist experience preferred. Certification/Licensure: Board certified in specialty or board eligible with expectation of becoming board certified within 2 years. Licensed to practice in the State of Kansas and have a valid DEA number.Applies for and maintains active medical staff privileges. Code Blue Training: ACLS and PALS required. ATLS and Neonatal Resuscitation preferred.
II. JOB DESCRIPTION: PHYSICAL DEMANDS Will routinely require working 7 calendar days in a row occasionally covering calls 24 hours per day. May require working greater than 7 calendar days in a row due to illness or vacations. May require standing for periods of up to 3 to 5 hours. May require frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, and grasping. Requires lifting and carrying up to 55 lbs. May also require pushing or pulling up to 55 lbs. Job requires full range of body motion, with occasional twisting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, and reaching. Job may require reaching overhead. Job requires ability to handle and lift patients. Eye-hand coordination, and finger and manual dexterity are required. Requires corrected hearing and vision to a normal range. Job requires working under stressful conditions and/or irregular hours. Job requires potential exposure to body fluids and radiation. Requires the ability to distinguish letters and symbols. Use of office equipment such as telephones, computer, fax machines, copy machines, and intercom may be required. Repetitive movements such as writing and computer entry are required.
